Four students of Accra Academy Senior High School have been charged before the Dansoman Circuit Court with multiple offenses, including conspiracy, abetment of crime, assault, and threats of harm.
The charges stem from a viral video allegedly showing the accused students assaulting their junior colleagues.
Among the accused, only Richard Ninson, 21, is an adult. The other three, aged between 15 and 17, are minors, and their names are therefore withheld.
While Ninson was absent, the three minors appeared before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit’s court today and pleaded not guilty.
They were released into the custody of their relatives—father, uncle, and aunt—who stood as sureties under the Juvenile Justice Act. Each was granted the bail of GH¢10,000 to allow them to prepare for their upcoming examinations.
Inspector Esther Mensah led by Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko, informed the court that disclosures and witness statements would be filed before the next hearing, scheduled for March 4, 2025.
Case Background
According to the prosecution, the complainant, reported the case after a tutor at Accra Academy, Japheth Nii Tetteh Amanquah, alerted authorities following the viral video’s circulation on social media on January 24, 2025.
Investigations revealed that on January 17, 2025, the victims—first-year students—were praying at the school’s park when the accused approached them.
The suspects allegedly ordered the victims to kneel and forced one of them to delete content from his phone before demanding GH¢500 for its return. The victims were also allegedly compelled to contribute GH¢10 each.
One of the accused, A2, is said to have struck a victim on the chest and used a machete to beat him. A4 is allegedly the owner of the weapon and participated in the assault. A3 is accused of recording the attack and issuing threats to silence the victims.
Following the school authorities’ intervention, the accused were arrested at different times in February 2025. After investigations, they were formally charged and brought before the court.
The case has been adjourned to March 4, 2025.
