Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, together with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Regional Coordinating Council has inspected the ongoing Phase Two of the Kumasi Kejetia/Central Market Redevelopment Project.

The Minister and his entourage inspected both the Phase One and Two of the project to acquaint himself with first-hand information about the project, which has been stalled for some time now.
He expressed satisfaction about the progress of work on the second phase, but tasked the contractors to speed up to ensure the timely completion of the project to ensure that the traders have a conducive and decent place to do their businesses.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene assured occupants of the section of the Phase One portion that was burnt that, repairs would be undertaken within two weeks after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Regional Coordinating Council had met with the leadership of the traders.
He said the contractor had confirmed the damaged section of the market could be fixed within two weeks.
About 54 shops were damaged in the market on March 15, 2023 and subsequently on January 24, 2025 when two shops were also destroyed.

The affected traders have appealed for repairs to enable them return to their businesses.
Dr. Amoakohene reassured the affected traders that they would not lose their shops after the repairs had been completed.
He expressed concern about the unsanitary conditions in the market, particularly the toilet facilities. He also lamented about the congested nature of some parts of the market because of the delay of the Phase two of the project.
The Minister urged traders occupying the fire-fighting installation points to move out to enable fire-fighters have access to them, in case of emergency.
He, therefore, directed that drivers who had turned the front view of the market into lorry terminals be moved away to ensure easy access to the market.
