St. Louis College of Education in Kumasi has held its 19thAnnual Congregation which coincided with the first Congregation for the Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) programme under the theme: “The Quest For Quality Basic Education Delivery In Ghana: The Role of Digitalised-Era Female Teacher”.
The Principal of the College, Mrs. Monica Konnie Mensah, acknowledged the enormous contribution of the College’s Governing Council, Management Team, Academic Board, Central Planning Committee, Staff and Continuing Students for their collective efforts in helping to produce graduates for Ghana under the 4-year study programme. She expressed her enthusiasm for all 446 graduates for emerging victorious in their studies.
Mrs. Mensah stated that the 2022/2023 batch of graduates is the pioneer group to graduate, since a switch of affiliation from UCC to UEW.
She expressed the college’s gratefulness to the Director of Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD) and his team, and the Vice-Chancellor of UEW, for mentoring the College to produce a record 101 First Class Honours achievers in the annals of the College, with a previous record of 33.
Ms. Francisca Birago was adjudged the Overall Best Student with 240 students receiving Second Class Upper, 92 had Second Class Lower and 13 passes.
The Principal thanked the parents, guardians and spouses of graduates for their contribution to their success. She also advised the graduates not to forget the values of the College and reminded them tha,t “success has a multitude of friends”.
Addressing the congregation, the Guest Speaker, Sister Brigit Nancy Andoh, the Ashanti Regional Leader of Sisters of St. Louis, congratulated the graduands whose determination and hard work had paid off throughout the 4-year study period, which had prepared them to be competent, creative and ready to apply broad and deep knowledge.
Touching on the theme, she emphasised that female teachers are role models to female students and urged them to acquire digital skills to help their influence on society to address the gender disparities.
This, she said, helps in mentoring and empowering students and also reduces female vulnerability, gender-based violence, emotional and physical attacks.
On the prudent use of social media, Sr. Nancy Andoh advised graduates not to be swayed by the fraudulent aspect of it and maintain self discipline in its use.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, who is also the MP for Kwadaso Constituency, extended his heartfelt congratulations to graduands and acknowledged staff and management of the college for their commitment and hard work in helping graduands to attain this feat.
In her valedictory speech, Ms. Francisca Birago appreciated the Principal, Staff, Management and Stakeholders for their unwavering support that made them work tirelessly for their degrees.
At the congregation were Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor UEW, Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye, Archbishop of Kumasi Catholic Diocese, Oheneba Kwabena Owusu Kokor I, Otumfuo’s Asamponghene and Nana Kodie, a representative of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, a sod has been cut to commence the building of the College Clinic with funding being provided by St. Louis Past Students Association (SLOPSA).
