Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has entreated the youth aspiring to become leaders to look beyond the confines of the nation and towards the corporate world.
According to him, creativity is all that Ghana needs as we have all the natural resources in the country.
“What is left,” he noted, “is the human resources which we have but are not well harnessed.”
The former President expressed these concerns as Guest Speaker at the Transform Summit at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST) over the weekend, during which Africa Role model Awards and Role model convocation were highlighted.
The theme of the Summit was: “15 years of Transformational Leadership”.
The former President commended Dr. Andy Osei Okra, the founder and President of the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition (YPYC) and the governing board of the Organisation and urged them to make sure they set competitive record with meritocracy, as they set themselves to groom and raise Young Professionals and Youthful leaders.
Dr Andy Osei Okrah explained that YPYC’s mission is to raise and groom generational thinkers and transformational leaders, because good leadership was the problem of Africa.
He noted that his outfit was not training mere leaders, but leaders whose minds are transformed and have been groomed to become the expected leaders for the nation and Africa.
Dr. Andy Okra disclosed that YPYC has reached out and engaged over 30,000 young people in the15 years of its existence.
He indicated that currently, the YPYC has indirectly reached out to 100,000 persons through social media and that, hundreds out of the number are sampled and working with 500 trained transformational leaders.
According to him, YPYC has over 150 role models and not ordinary role models, including His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former President and the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, former Defence Minister, ministers of state and Nananom.
“This is not a mere achievement”, he said, noting that the YPYC programme provides a brighter future and hope for the country and Africa.
Personalities such as; His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Dr. Randy Abbey, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Finance and other dignitaries received Awards in various categories and lifetime achievements as role models.
