Ukranian tennis star Marta Kostyuk will prepare for her second-round match at Wimbledon on Thursday in unorthodox fashion – by donning her wedding dress.
The world No19 battled past first-round opponent Rebecca Sramakova in dominant fashion, beating the Slovakian in straight sets, but even more eye-catching was her Wilson tennis dress, a simple white dress with a plunging neckline, flared skirt, and a cut-out at the back.
But Kostyuk had already notably worn a similar dress on her wedding day, when she plumped for the tennis label to design her bridal look after signing with them in January 2023.
Kostyuk became Wilson’s first head-to-toe brand ambassador, and worked with the label to design the outfit for her special day, adding an embroidered sheer overlay to what is now her on-court Wimbledon staple.
The 22-year-old shared that her idea for the design had stemmed from her desire to feel comfortable and fluid on her wedding day, after beginning the process with no sense of the dress style she wanted to wear.
‘I think a lot of girls know exactly how they want their wedding dress to look but I had no idea what I wanted, or what I liked,’ Kostyuk told Vogue.
‘The idea and the story behind this dress is, I think, by far one of the best in tennis. I don’t know if ever but for sure, right now.’
Kostyuk married her now-husband George Kyzymenko in Cyprus in November of last year after first becoming friends as children.
