As the Presidents’ appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chiefs Executives (MMDCEs) approaches, many unscrupulous people are taking advantage of it to extort money from would-be nominees and the Office of the Director for Political Affairs under the Office of the Chief of Staff who have fallen prey to it.
According to the Director for Political Affairs, Mr Frank Asiedu Bekoe, also known as Protozoa, his attention has been drawn to the actions of “some unscrupulous person(s) placing unsolicited financial demands on some vulnerable MMDCE-nominees with the aim of securing them positions as MMDCE aspirants.”
He has, therefore, sent a strong warning to people using his office to extort money from would-be MMDCE to desist from such acts.
He has, accordingly, advised MMDCE-aspirants to treat such individuals as fraudsters and impersonators and as well take caution in dealing with such people.
“Meanwhile, the National Investigations Bureau, Criminals Investigations Department and other security agencies are investigating the act in order to bring the perpetrators to book,” Mr Bekoe noted.
Below is the full statement from Mr Bekoe.
The attention of the Office of the Director Political Affairs (Office of Chief of Staff) –Frank Asiedu Bekoe has been drawn to the actions of some unscrupulous person (s) placing unsolicited financial demands on some vulnerable MMDCEs nominees with the aim of securing them positions as MMDCE aspirants.
I wish to state categorically without any equivocation that Frank Asiedu Bekoe (Protozoa) has not authorized anyone to demand money from people in order to secure them job as MMDCEs. In fact, I do not have the powers, capacity and authority to act in that regard. Rather, the President is the only person clothed with the sole powers of appointing MMDCE nominees.
The general public and all MMDCE nominees are therefore advised to treat these individuals as impersonators, fraudsters and people with dubious characters.
In the meantime, the general public and all MMDCE aspirants must take caution in transacting business with these individuals whilst the NIB, CID and other security Agencies keep investigating the act in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
