A group by name Concern Staff of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has condemned of an attempt by some individuals to sabotage the Managing Director (MD) of ECG, Mr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, for their parochial gains.
According to the workers, some faceless persons within the company were spewing all manner of lies, including not discharging his duties effectively, to dent the image of the MD, in order to cause his dismissal.
The Spokesperson of the group, who preferred his identity to be kept from the public, averred that all the allegations labelled against Mr. Budu have been revealed as being untrue and without merit.
In an interview with an Accra-base radio, Okay FM today, a concerned worker, whose identity was not disclosed, revealed that the call for the removal of the MD was being orchestrated by some few individuals who were seeking their selfish interests.
According to him, majority of the workers don’t know anything about the allegations labelled against the MD, stating that most of them were not in support of the action.
He said he would not be surprised it is some people who want to occupy the office of the MD masterminding the act.
“I will not be surprised it is some people who want to occupy the office. But the truth is if you need it just go through the right process,” he said.
He added that the accusation, such as the MD prevented workers from doing mass disconnection, had no basis, saying: “It was government’s decision to give the public relive on electricity, so ECG did not do disconnections, and truly, all the staff enjoyed from that, and apart from that, whatever we deserved was given to us.”
The spokesperson went on to say: “We started to go for revenue mobilisation, but we go there verbally without disconnecting the customers by collecting the bail, until recently they normalise and asked us to go for disconnection. So it is not the same money we are going to take.”
He added that since Mr. Budu’s appointment, he has been able to lobby promotion for over 900 staff, stating: “Over 900 people during the covid relif benefited from promotion. So I don’t see the reason why they go on to campaign against him.”
He, therefore, dared the Union and executives to face the staff of the company internally to tell them the truth of the allegations labelled against the MD.
