The Principal of the Presbyterian Midwifery College at Duayaw Nkwanta in Ahafo Region, Mrs Joyce Ohene, has cautioned nursing training applicants against presenting fake certificates as that could affect them even after enrolment.
She was speaking at the just-ended 55th Session of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Ayakomaso in the Bono Region.
The Principal stated that most applicants during interviews are not armed with their certificates, with the reason that the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has not released them, but when verified by the school, most of the certificates turn out to contradict grades presented by the applicants.
“This is unacceptable and must be discouraged to ensure sanity in the education system,” Mrs Ohene said, adding that “the school admits 60% of Presbyterians and 40% public, but the issue of protocol is hampering the process, as most leaders present non-Presbyterians.”
She said the school had, therefore, decided to demand membership cards as evidence, as the practice was preventing genuine church members from gaining admission into the institution.
Mrs. Ohene also commended the Presbytery for the support during her induction service.
The Principal said forms are out and interested persons could apply with a genuine certificate, stating that “the requirement is A1to C6.” Applicants must have offered General Science, General Arts, Home Economics, General Agric, with Science and Economics subjects.
Business students are not qualified, but can write some of the Science and Arts subjects to enable them to apply.
In a related development, an inadequate number of computers was impeding studies in Information Technology at the Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School in Ahafo Region, Mr Edwin Odame Amoah, Headmaster of the school, has disclosed.
“Even though the school has registered about 1,340 final year students to write the 2021 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), we do not have enough computers to aid the study of the subject, and the students have to be transported to Sunyani Senior High School for computer practicals,” the Headmaster said.
Mr. Amoah indicated that his outfit had written several letters to the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for support, but to no avail, and appealed to the Brong Ahafo Presbytery to intervene as a matter of urgency.
Meanwhile, the immediate past Chairperson of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery, Rev. Dr. Williams Ofosu Addo, has assured the school of the church’s support to improve education.
