The dredged area of River Offin
Okofrobuo Obeng Nuako II, the chief of Dunkwa-on-Offin has mobilised local machinery and residents of neighbouring communities to dredge the Offin River, in a bid to avoid flooding from the impending rains.
Areas like Sofokrom, Accra Town, Pesantease, Buabinso, Pokukrom, Barrier and surrounding communities suffer from annual flooding in the area whenever it rains, hence the move by the chief to avoid the situation where flood victims over the years are compelled to relocate to classrooms and churches.

The mined area of the river
At the celebration of Akwasidae last Sunday, Nana Nuako said that the people do not have to wait on the government to do what they (residents) can do for themselves.
He explained that he deemed it prudent to ensure the free flow of water by engaging the residents to offer labour to clear the waterways from galamsey activities, while awaiting government intervention and efforts to dredge the river.
He mentioned that the Densu, Pra and Ankobrah Rivers have been choked with sand and gravels due to the galamsey, hence the exercise to complement government intervention in other areas of development, like the provision of roads and schools.
John Kofi Abbew, the Project Coordinator for the dredging exercise assured that it is on course but cautioned those whose activities cause blockage of the water passage.
He explained that the objective of the exercise is to ensure the wellbeing of the residents and warned that recalcitrant people would be prosecuted to ensure that flooding is minimised in the area to protect lives and properties.
