Methodist Bishop Lays Foundation Stone for Freeman Prayer Centre

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, has laid the Foundation Stone of the multi-purpose Freeman Prayer Centre at Kusa in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.

When completed, the prayer centre, christened Rev. Thomas Birch Freeman Prayer Centre, will serve as one of the biggest prayer centres in the country, where Christians from all over the country and beyond will converge to seek the face of Almighty God.

The Centre will have a 4,000 capacity church building when it becomes fully operational. Other components of the building will include a prayer garden, clinic and rehabilitation centre, restaurant and commercial business area, and an amphitheater, among others.

The centre will also have a 2,000 capacity hostel to accommodate the Christian population.

Addressing the congregation after the foundation stone laying ceremony, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Boafo paid glowing tribute to past and present bishops, as well as the entire membership of the Obuasi Diocese, for their foresight and dedication in securing the 34-acre land for the Freeman Prayer Centre.

He was happy to learn that all documentation in respect of the prayer centre had been formalised, and stressed, “if all the Methodist Church Ghana properties across the country would receive the attention the Freeman Centre had received it would be welcome news to the church as a whole.”

“In one of the dioceses, a whole Manse for the Bishop was about to be completed for occupation, but the project has stalled due to litigation, so if the Freeman Prayer Centre is litigation-free then we thank the Almighty God and the leaders of the diocese,” Most Rev. Paul Boafo said.

He stated that God willing, the Centre will become a whole village, a whole complex thing, and thanked all those who, in diverse ways, contributed financially towards its building.

The Presiding Bishop used the occasion to educate the public about COVID-19, noting that the disease is real.

He further stated that COVID-19 has brought untold hardship to the entire world, and called on Ghanaians to strictly abide by its preventive protocols.

“COVID-19 does not discriminate. It kills the rich, the poor, and everybody. Don’t let it be said of you that you did not abide by the protocols and succumbed to the pandemic,” he added.

The Obuasi Diocesan Bishop of the Church, Rt. Rev. Hayford Aduse Poku, traced the history of the centre and added that everything on the 34-acre land is the bonafide property of the Methodist Church Ghana.

Mr. Justice Amoh of Justmoh Construction, who chaired the function, called for support from all and sundry towards the completion of the prayer centre.
