Superintendent Cyprian Zenge and Constable Yelnona Eugene
Tragedy has struck the Ghana Police Service, as two of its personnel died within two days in what is suspected to be acts of suicide. First was the Half Assini District Police Commander, Superintendent Cyprian Zenge, whose body was discovered in the morning of Saturday, January 30, 2021 on the corridor of his official residence.
As the nation battles to find out the circumstances leading to his death, another dastardly act occurred at the Ridge in Accra.
Constable Yelnona Eugene, stationed at the National Protection Unit (NPU), was found dead in a washroom of a house allegedly belonging to the Togolese opposition leader, Olympio, with his body riddled with pellets.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong Boanu, would like an expertise report from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to confirm if it was suicide or murder.
A report gathered by The Chronicle indicates that the Constable had for some time now been treating an undisclosed ailment, for which he obtained leave.
Last Thursday, January 29, 2021, he was spotted at the unit’s Charge Office, and as to what transpired was not stated, but found himself on duty at the Togolese opposition leader’s residence.
In the morning of Monday February 1, 2021, his duty assault rifle with a sling were found on the floor, with what looked like pellets holes in his chest and exiting at the back.
In the case of the Half Assini District Police Commander, Cyprian Zenge, he reportedly was posted to the place about three years ago.
The Chronicle gathered that on the night of the day he assumed duty, an inmate died in the cells, only for a mob to attack and vandalise the station, during which the personnel, including himself, were not spared.
