
The two main contenders in this year’s presidential elections, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama, presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have both resumed their campaign tours.
Communications from both camps indicates they would resume today after breaking to observe a week’s national mourning following the demise of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
For President Akufo-Addo, he is in the Volta Region today for a two-day tour. The visit will see him commission the mini hydro at Alavanyo, and then inspect ongoing construction of a sports stadium at Hohoe.
The President will then meet with chiefs and religious leaders at St Francis and address residents of Hohoe at the RC park.
On the part of the flag bearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Kwame Zu, explained that he will continue his interactions with traditional and religious leaders, chiefs and opinion leaders, professional groups, artisans, party members, and sympathizers among other interest groups in the area.
In an interview with The Chronicle, Mr. Zu disclosed that John Mahama would be in the Ashanti region. As such, he asked all stakeholders, party sympathizers and the general public for that matter to welcome the NDC flag bearer who is expected to touchdown at the Kumasi Airport on Friday morning.
Mr. Zu, further noted former president John Dramani Mahama will visit New Edubiase where the umbrella movement is hoping to whisk back the New Edubiase seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) four years ago. He will also be at Ejisu to canvasss for votes for the less than one-month polls.
The Ashanti Regional Scribe of the NDC further disclosed that the NDC will stage a mammoth walk at Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region in remembrance of their fallen founder, Jerry John Rawlings who died on Thursday November 12,2020 at the Kole Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra.
Mr. Kwame Zu, noted that epic walk would be staged on Monday morning which will start at Aboabo Post Office in memory of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings.
He told The Chronicle in a telephone interview that former president John Dramani Mahama would address the gathering, after which lives the Ashanti region. The walk, according Kwame Zu, seeks to spur them on to victory ahead of the December 7 polls.
The Ashanti Regional NDC secretary revealed to this paper that Aboabo walk forms part of itinerary John Mahama, who is continuing his six days campaign tour of the Ashanti region, which was truncated by the demise of Rawlings.
