The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong Buanu, has laid the foundation stone for work to begin a 50-bed capacity hospital for the Ashanti Regional police command.
The project, funded by the police Service through contributions from their welfare scheme, to be manned by a police Medical Director, is expected to be completed within ten months by August 2021.
The IGP commended COP Nathan Kofi Boakye, the current Director General in charge of Legal and Prosecution for initiating the project six years ago when he was the Ashanti regional Police Commander.
He described the GH¢83,000 project as a laudable and visionary initiative.
According to the IGP, the police administration considers the project as a priority to serve families of police personnel in the Ashanti region, as well as Bono, Bono East and the northern parts of the country.
He said the hospital would be taking care of Retired officers, inmates from the various police stations and other security personnel could also access health care at the facility, adding that the facility, when completed, would ease pressure on the Police hospital in Accra and other health facilities in the Ashanti region.
COP Mensah Duku, Ashanti Regional police Commander, also commended COP Kofi Boakye for the initiative.
Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, commended the police administration and COP Kofi Boakye for such a laudable project and other numerous projects he initiated and completed when he served as the head of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
