Mr Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, Chief Executive (DCE) of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly, has supported 50 People Living With Disability (PWDs) in the district.
The support saw the beneficiaries receive income-generating items, as well as cash support, to enable them to engage in business activities so as to be self-sufficient.
The items included industrial sewing machines, manual sewing machines, deep freezers, wood spraying machines, Gari processing machines, mattresses, plastic chairs, and palm oil processing machines among others.
The items were purchased with 3% of the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund received from Central Government
Cost/breakdown
An amount of GH?96,000 was used to purchase these items for 38 people, while GH?14,900 was presented as cash support to 12 beneficiaries.
During the presentation, the DCE noted that a total of 341 people had been supported either through income generating activities, cash, educational or logistics since 2017.
“In all, a total of approximately GH?547,854 had been spent in providing support to Persons with Disability in these areas,” he disclosed.
Commendation
Mr Nyarko commended the beneficiaries who had previously received support from the Assembly for putting the received items to good use and had improved their lives.
“It is my hope that today’s beneficiaries would also emulate this very good example, so that policy makers would be motivated to give more financial allocations,” he added.
Government’s commitment
“I would like to assure you of the government’s commitment to making the lives of Persons with Disability better in financial support and in policy making,” he further assured.
According to the DCE, the government had fulfilled its promise of increasing the percentage allocation to Persons with Disability under the District Assemblies Common Fund from 2% to 3%.
“Let me say here that, government will continue to do more for you if you support in maintaining H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo as president in the upcoming 2020 elections,” he emphasised.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the DCE and the government for the donations and promised to use them for the intended purposes.
