The Coastal Development Authority (CoDA) is sponsoring the construction of a modern lorry park at Breman Essiam in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region
The new station would replace an existing one located at Nkwanta Num which has outlived its usefulness, after serving the people for years.
At ceremony to commence the project, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CoDA, Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, stated that all projects sponsored by the Authority across the country were special projects from the President.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo had delivered on almost all the promises he made to Ghanaians during the 2016 electioneering campaign period that eventually brought him to office.
He, therefore, appealed to the people of Essiam and Ghanaians in general to “vote for the NPP and give the President a second term in office to be able to do more for the country.”
Composition of the project
The entire station would be paved and an area demarcated purposely to create comfort for passengers who would be waiting for vehicles.
As part of the project, streetlights would be mounted so as to make the station safer, brighter and user-friendly during the night.
DCE’s promise
The District Chief Executive of the area, Mr Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, highlighted some projects that the District had benefited under the CoDA initiatives, which included classroom blocks.
He promised that the assembly would pay for the construction of a befitting office for the local Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) branch at the new lorry station.
Essiammanhen’s remarks
The Omanhen of Breman Essiam, Odeefo Afankwa III, noted that the Nkwanta Num lorry park served as the main station for the adjoining communities.
Due to its significance, he pointed out that its dusty nature and deplorable state, especially during the rainy season, was of concern to the chiefs and people
Odeefo Afankwa, therefore, expressed appreciation to CoDA for its decision to construct a befitting lorry station that would serve the town, and the traditional area as a whole
He disclosed that CoDA took the decision in the best interests of the chiefs and people, because they were duly consulted prior to the final decision to construct the project.
A grader was already on site during the sod-cutting ceremony.
Mr Ahmed Shaib, who introduced the contractor to the people, stated that the project would be completed by 25th November.
Dr Rashid Etuaful, the NPP parliamentary candidate of the constituency, praised President Akufo-Addo for what he called numerous social interventions and policies that had benefited every Ghanaian.
