The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Ms Patricia Appiagyei, can now heave a sigh of relief as Elder Devine Osei Mintah, who declared to contest the Asokwa parliamentary seat as an independent candidate, has stepped down from the race.
Elder Devine Mintah has decided to support the candidature of Ms Patricia Appiagyei, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency.
He declared his support for the incumbent at a press conference, during which he apologised to all his fans and supporters for rescinding his decision to contest the Asokwa parliamentary seat. According to him, the decision became necessary considering the developmental agenda and prospects of the Asokwa Constituency in the interest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, he had, since the declaration to go solo, received calls from some traditional authorities, development-oriented individuals within the constituency, and the NPP regional and national level to rethink the decision, hence the decision to opt out of the race.
Elder Mintah said he had had several engagements with the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders, led by Rev. Adu Gyamfi, the Member of Parliament, Ms Patricia Appiagyei, and other ranking members of the party to deliberate on the impasse, following which careful deliberation and consultations their differences had been ironed out.
The failed aspirant said he and his team had the privilege of meeting the President of the Republic and flagbearer of the great New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, through the instrumentality of the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders.
According to him, it was during this encounter that the President explained in detail the developmental projections of the New Patriotic Party government for the Asokwa Constituency, and for the effort of the incumbent MP the government would not have had any knowledge of.
Elder Mintah disclosed that the President then promised to work closely with the incumbent Member of Parliament to ensure the needed development in the years ahead, and also promised to factor their campaign projections and proposals, directed at bringing development to the Asokwa Constituency, into the national development agenda, and, therefore, work hand-in-hand with Ms Patricia Appiagyei.
