Lagos state imposes 24-hour curfew, as Police station is set on fire

The governor of Lagos state has declared a 24-hour curfew across Nigeria’s biggest city, saying protests sparked by police violence had “degenerated into a monster”.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu said in a Twitter post on Tuesday that “nobody except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets” would be allowed on the street from 4pm local time.

“We will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state,” added the governor.

Thousands of people across Nigeria have taken to the streets every day for almost two weeks, demanding an end to police brutality and justice for victims.

Meanwhile, a police station has gone up in flames in Lagos State. Hoodlums on Tuesday attacked and razed the Layeni police station, located at Ojo road, Ajegunle in Apapa.

The incident occurred hours after an arson at Orile.
