One person can’t determine the fate of 35 million Ghanaians – Lawyer jabs Chief Justice

A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare has reiterated his commitment to fight the injustice being perpetrated by the General Legal Council (GLC), the regulatory body of legal education in Ghana headed by the Chief Justice, urging Ghanaians not to allow her to determine the fate of the rest of Ghana.

Mr Kwaku Ansa-Asare has become a fierce critic of the GLC owing to the very limited number of persons who qualify for the Ghana School of Law after taking the entrance examination.

But the Chief Justice, who is also the Chairperson of the GLC has strenuously defended the GLC, citing the need to maintain standards and to no engage in the “mass production” of lawyers.

Her defence of the GLC, especially her view about the “mass production” of lawyers has irked Mr Asare, who thinks that she is holding the rest of Ghanaians to ransom and should have resigned after making the said comment.

“…Ghana belongs to all of us what is happening is that one person, the Chairperson of the General Legal Council wants to have everything to say and do about the admission of law students. We should story it. One person! One person. We are talking about 35 million Ghanaians. We should not sit idly by and allow the Chairperson or the chairman of the General Legal Council or any regulatory body to say that: ‘over my dead body will there be mass production of lawyers.’ That in itself, if we were anywhere else, those remarks, the next minute, whoever made these remarks should resign, should step down!” He told Joy FM in a recent interview MyNewsGh.com monitored

Mr Ansa-Asare had been invited by the GLC after he launched a scathing criticism of the body in an interview with ABC Television.
