
The event which was held at the auditorium of the Department of Economics of the University of Ghana brought about over 600 individuals in attendance for the official opening.
In his remarks, Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah the president of APBA outlined a series of events leading to the inception of the APBA and how he was consulted to be the Interim President of the Association.
“The plant breeding offers a huge opportunity to provide sustainable paths to increasing domestic supply of food and dietary diversity in Africa,” he said.
The Deputy Minister for Agriculture and the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Sagre Bambangi applauded the interim executives for their tireless work done to establish this association.
He mentioned that the hard work of plant breeders has brought out a lot of success stories like the green revolution in Asia and other parts of the world.
“Plant breeders have saved the world from hunger with their innovative ideas,” he noted.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu highlighted on the Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2) and the targets set to conquer food insecurity in Africa through Agriculture.
He, however, called on African Governments, the African Union and sub-regional organizations and development partners to work together in order to achieve the vision of eliminating hunger. Read Full Story
