
The Porcupine Warriors succumb to a 2-0 defeat against San Pedro in Abidjan to miss out on the group phase of the Competition 2-1 on aggregate.
The defeat means that Asante Kotoko failed to replicate last season's achievement of playing in the group stage of the continental showpiece much to the disappointment of their teaming supporters.
But speaking on Accra based Happy FM, former coach JE Sarpong explained that the club did not have the required quality to compete with Africa's elite.
“The Kotoko team is not good enough to compete in Africa", Sarpong said.
"They don’t have quality in the team. The technical team must also be blamed for this defeat. Changing last season squad was needless. How can you build a team and then allow all the players to leave and you start all over again”, he added.
In a related news, Kotoko head coach Kjetil Zachariasen has been asked by the management of the club not to travel with the team back to Ghana following their elimination from the CAF Confederations cup.
According to the management, they can not guarantee the coach's safety amidst threats directed at him from the club's supporters. Read Full Story
