The veteran football administrator and current President of the Ghana Rugby Federation is weighing his options as incumbent President of the GFA Kwesi Nyantakyi enters the final two years of his third tenure.
Three months ago,Kwesi Nyantakyi put a number of prominent individuals within the sports fraternity on red alert when he disclosed to Graphic Sports his intention to step down after his current tenure expires.
‘Indeed, I have no plans to entrench myself in the position as it is a privileged post; at a point, I would have to leave and there is no better time to do so than when the applaud is very loud,”
”I don’t think I’m the only person capable of leading Ghana football. I can do so much but not everything. Besides, I think we all must take a page from the wind of change blowing in FIFA on reforms which among things place a limit on the term of president.”
His conviction to stand down is however more mellow in recent publications. ”I hope so, I hope so, I have done my best and I definitely will not be at the FA forever because it’s not a chieftaincy position where I will occupy until I’m dead.”
For now, Mr Mensah is keeping his cards close to his chest but could make more concrete moves based on the happenings of the next few months.
The FA is however divided internally on the way forward regarding Nyantakyi’s future.
Key individuals believe that he has given off his best and must now make way since he has become a target for dragging the name of the FA in the mud.
His popularity among the Regional Federations however is at an all time high.
