Senegal have announced plans to present the Africa Cup of Nations trophy before their international friendly against Peru in Paris on Saturday, despite being stripped of the title.
The move comes as the West African nation continues its legal challenge against the Confederation of African Football’s decision to award the trophy to Morocco following a controversial ruling.
Speaking at a press conference in Paris, a lawyer representing Senegal revealed that Morocco had requested to receive the medals, prize money and related rewards after being handed a 3-0 victory by CAF’s Appeals Committee.
However, that request was rejected by the appeals jury, according to Senegal’s legal team.
The situation has added further tension to the dispute, with Senegal maintaining their position that they were rightful winners on the pitch.
The case is expected to be decided by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with the outcome likely to have significant implications for African football governance and future tournament regulations.
