Togo head coach Patrice Neveu says defender Marvin Senaya has given a positive response to represent his side, as the battle with Ghana over the player’s international future intensifies.
The AJ Auxerre right-back has been caught in a dual call-up situation after being named in both Togo’s squad and Ghana’s squad for the March international window.
Neveu revealed he has already held talks with the 23-year-old and is confident of the player’s stance, although he stopped short of confirming the matter as settled.
“Senaya was contacted, and I received his response. It was positive regarding Togo,” Neveu said.
However, the French coach indicated that the final outcome will depend on whether the defender reports to camp.
“If he’s not there for the training camp, we’ll draw conclusions. He gave his agreement, and an agreement is verbal. I don’t want to get into any arguments. I’m waiting.”
The situation escalated after Ghana coach Otto Addo included Senaya in his 26-man squad for friendlies against Austria and Germany, despite the player’s earlier involvement with Togo’s plans for matches against Guinea and Niger.
Senaya, who plays in France with Auxerre, is regarded as a modern full-back known for his pace, defensive awareness and ability to contribute in attack.
Ghana are keen to strengthen the right-back position, an area that has lacked consistency in recent years, especially with Tariq Lamptey struggling with injuries.
Born in France, Senaya is eligible to represent multiple countries. He is the son of former Togo international Yao Mawuko Senaya and is also reported to have Ghanaian roots.
Neveu has made it clear he will not be drawn into a public dispute, opting instead to wait for the player’s decision, which is expected to become clear when national team camps begin.
Until Senaya makes a competitive senior appearance, he remains eligible for both countries, leaving one of the most closely watched international eligibility battles in African football unresolved.
