Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has credited a unified team spirit for the Black Stars' successful quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that collective effort was the catalyst for their triumph.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Ayew reflected on the arduous journey the national team faced during the qualifying campaign.
The veteran striker, who led the side to the top of Group I, emphasized that their success was not the result of individual brilliance but a synchronized effort between the playing body and the hierarchy of Ghanaian football.
"It is teamwork, not about one person," Ayew remarked. "We gathered ourselves and made sure we were ready for the task. It was a huge mountain to climb, but we managed to climb it as a team, together with the technical staff and the executives."
Ayew’s leadership was pivotal throughout the qualifiers, where his 14 goal contributionsâincluding seven goals and seven assistsâset a high standard for the squad.
Despite his own record-breaking form, the Leicester City forward remained humble, noting that the ultimate goal was to restore national pride following previous disappointments.
"With their support and team effort, we were able to put smiles on the faces of the Ghanaians," Ayew added.
Ghana is in World Cup Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
