Pape Gueye netted a brilliant first half brace as Senegal came from a goal down to beat Kwesi Appiah's Sudan 3-1 and progress to the last eight of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Sudan, led by the Ghanaian trainer, had taken a shock lead through Aamir Abdallah after 6 minutes but Gueye's double and substitute Ibrahima Mbaye's strike ensured the former champions keep their AFCON hopes alive.
Meanwhile, captain and legengary forward Sadio Mane, was the architect of the show, serving two assists to becoming the player with the most assists in the history of the tournament, surpassing former winner Yaya Toure.
Abdallah gave Sudan early hopes after curling home from the edge of the box to beat Edouard Mendy following a blistering start to the match.
Senegal came close moments later through Nicolas Jackson before Gueye fired home the equalizer after receiving a pass from Mane.
Just before half-time, the Villareal mad added his second, converting from inside the box after Jackson squared a pass.
After the break, coach Pape Thiaw replaced Crystal Palace forward Ismailla Sarr with PSG's youngster Mbaye.
Mbaye registered his name on the score-sheet three minutes later after receiving a well-thread pass from Mane.
Senegal will face the winner of the game between Mali and Tunisia in the quarter-final of the competition.
