Daniel Afriyie scored late but FC Aarau still fell 3-2 away to FC Vaduz in the Swiss Challenge League on Friday night.
The Ghanaian forward made a sharp impact after coming on in the 83rd minute, replacing Elias Filet at the Rheinpark Stadion. Two minutes later, Afriyie showed calm inside the box, meeting a cross from Ramon Guzzo and finishing low to level the score at 2-2. Aarau fans celebrated, hoping the point was secured.
Earlier, Vaduz had taken the lead through Stephan Seiler’s strike in the 17th minute. Aarau responded well and drew level when Filet turned in from close range in the 22nd minute. The home side regained control after the break, with Dominik Schwizer converting a penalty on 61 minutes.
Aarau’s task became harder when Marcin Dickenmann was sent off on 65 minutes for a second booking. Despite being down to ten men, Aarau stayed brave and found a way back through Afriyie.
However, Vaduz had the final word. Seiler struck again in the 89th minute from a corner, sealing a 10th league win for the hosts.
