Ghana Football Association Head of Public Relations and Strategy, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has urged regional authorities and private stakeholders to commit more resources to identifying and developing young athletes, describing talent as a national asset that must be converted into economic value.
Delivering the keynote address at the Volta Sports Development Forum, Armstrong-Mortagbe said Ghana can only compete globally if it strengthens its talent pipeline from the grassroots.
“Talent is not enough; it must be harnessed, nurtured, and linked to opportunity,” he stated. “When we invest in young people, through sports development, skill-building, and deliberate capacity support, we’re not just preparing them for jobs. We’re preparing them for global impact.”
He highlighted the Volta Region as a key contributor to national sports excellence and urged policymakers to provide the structures that can transform raw potential into world-class performance.
Armstrong-Mortagbe added that sporting success can fuel job creation across multiple sectors, including health, technology, media, and tourism, as Ghana works towards a 24-hour economy.
