Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar and goalkeeper Andre Onana have been left out of the Indomitable Lions squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The experienced pair were omitted from the final squad named on Monday. Aboubakar, who joined Azerbaijani side Neftchi PFK in October after several months without a club, has struggled to find his best form this season. Onana, despite performing well for Turkish side Trabzonspor, has also been excluded.
Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo headlines the squad and will be among the key figures as Cameroon chase a sixth continental title.
The absence of Aboubakar and Onana comes in the aftermath of Cameroon’s failure to qualify directly for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team was eliminated in the African playoffs by DR Congo, leading to increasing scrutiny on senior members of the squad.
Cameroon will compete in Group C at AFCON 2025 alongside Gabon, the Ivory Coast and Mozambique, with the tournament set to begin on December 21 in Morocco.
