Semper Fi’s run in the MTN FA Cup came to a halt after a 2-1 defeat to Premier League side Dreams FC at the Tuba Astroturf.
The Division One side had entered the Round of 64 clash on the back of five straight wins in all competitions and looked poised for a surprise result after taking a first-half lead.
Their bright start raised expectations of a major upset, but Dreams FC regrouped after the interval and took control of the game. The top-flight club struck twice in the second half to overturn the scoreline and secure their passage to the next round.
For Semper Fi, the defeat ends their cup adventure, but the team will take positives from their strong display against higher-tier opposition.
Attention now shifts to the Access Bank Division One League, where they remain in excellent form. They sit first in Zone III with 17 points from eight matches and continue to push for promotion.
Semper Fi will face Inter Allies in their next league game this weekend, while Dreams Eleven Wonders, hoping to return to winning ways in the top flight.
