Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko maintains that his side were denied a clear penalty during Saturday’s goalless draw with Bechem United at the T&A Stadium.
The result saw the Mauves and Yellows slip to second place after failing to break down a well-organised Bechem side. Tanko believes the match could have taken a different turn had a key first-half incident been judged differently.
The moment came when Kelvin Nkrumah chased a loose ball after goalkeeper Benjamin Asiedu failed to gather Kamaradini’s effort. Nkrumah went down under pressure in the box, prompting loud appeals for a penalty, but the referee waved play on.
Reflecting on the decision, Tanko remained firm in his view. “We should have been awarded a penalty. That incident was a penalty, but that is football,” he said.
Tanko also accepted that Medeama could have done better with the chances they created.
“The first half was tough. We did not create much. In the second half, we created all the chances, but unfortunately, we could not score,” he said.
Medeama now sit third on 22 points, one behind leaders Aduana Stars. Bechem United remain in the relegation zone with 10 points from 11 matches.
