Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has opened up about his experience with Eleven Wonders, hinting at deeper issues within the club despite having severed ties.
His comments follow revelations from veteran coach J.E. Sarpong, who left the club after less than a month, citing poor treatment of players.
Sarpong highlighted that players are not adequately fed and often rely on public transport to attend training sessions. He also disclosed that several players are owed months of unpaid salaries.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Odartey Lamptey insisted that the team’s struggles early in the season were not his fault. He suggested that the club’s handling of matters has been poor and hinted at further insights he could share about his time there.
"The challenges of Eleven Wonders were not down to me, and the players are aware of that. Whatever I know in the game, I did that to save the club, and if I tell you what I did for the club, you would be surprised, and that is why I have decided to stay mute because the club should know better.
He continued, reflecting on Sarpong’s revelations: "With whatever J.E. Sarpong has said, I have billions of them, but to me, it is not necessary because I am happy that an experienced coach like J.E. Sarpong has come out to say some of these things after just working with the club for three weeks, it tells you there is something wrong with the club somewhere, but whatever he has said, I have billion of them but I just hope that the wrongs will be corrected so that the players will be able to play well because at the end of the day, it Ghana football that will suffer," he added.
After 11 matches, Eleven Wonders are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings with just three points and yet to claim a victory. The club will be eager to change fortunes when they host Dreams FC at the University of Ghana Stadium in Matchday 12 this weekend.
