Eleven Wonders players can go three days without eating - J.E. Sarpong opens up on why he resigned

Veteran Ghanaian coach Josef Emmanuel Sarpong has revealed the reasons behind his sudden exit from Eleven Wonders, less than a month after being appointed.

Sarpong, who has previously managed Great Olympics and Ebusua Dwarfs, was hired to replace Nii Odartey Lamptey following the team’s poor start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

However, after three matches without a win, he chose to step down, prompting widespread speculation.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Sarpong explained that he quickly uncovered systemic problems within the club that made his position unsustainable.

"I was contacted to help fix the situation, but upon arrival, I realised that so many things were wrong within the club," he said.

"Personally, I did not want a situation where it would be said that I was the one in charge when the team got relegated from the Premier League, so I had to make a decision to leave. Players are not paid well and are not fed well. Sometimes, the players can go three days without eating. They have a poor transportation plan. The players are sometimes forced to use public transport, 'trotro', which is not good for the players. "

He hinted that some of these challenges may have been hidden before his arrival.

"Nii Odartey Lamptey was in charge and perhaps could not let these things out, but for me, I will say it. The challenges of the club are down to administrative lapses, and so you cannot entirely blame the players for the current situation," he added.

Eleven Wonders currently sit at the bottom of the league with just three points from 11 matches. They will take on Dreams FC in their Matchday 12 fixture, with a replacement for Sarpong yet to be announced.
