Hearts of Oak’s struggles in front of goal continued on Sunday as they were held to a goalless draw by Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, stretching their winless run to three league matches.
The result dents their hopes of closing the gap at the top, leaving them five points behind the summit after another frustrating afternoon.
Coming into the game on the back of defeats to Kotoko and a stalemate with Swedru All Blacks, the Phobians needed a strong response. Instead, they once again lacked the sharpness required in the final third. Despite enjoying the better share of possession, they struggled to create clear openings, and the few chances that fell their way were comfortably dealt with by the hosts’ defence.
Young Apostles, urged on by their supporters, approached the contest with confidence and discipline. They conceded possession but remained dangerous on transitions, recording six shots on target to Hearts’ four and looking capable of snatching a winner at moments. Their organised display ensured they earned a valuable point and kept their mid-table push steady.
Hearts of Oak stay sixth and must regroup quickly ahead of their home meeting with Vision FC. Young Apostles, now ninth, travel to Swedru to face All Blacks in their next outing.
