Ghanaian singer and songwriter, King Promise has disclosed Michael Essien's influence in becoming a staunch Chelsea fan.
The former Black Stars midfielder, who currently serve as an assistant coach to Danish outfit FC Nordjaelland left an indelible mark at Chelsea, helping the club to annex the UEFA Champions League title and several domestic trophies.
Essien joined the Premier league giants in 2005 for 24.4 million pounds transfer fee and established himself as a key member of the team before his departure in 2014.
While at the Stamford Bridge creating content for the launch of his upcoming song Bad Habits featuring Davido, which is set to be released on Friday 21 November, King Promise disclosed he fell in love with Chelsea because of Essien.
“I always loved football, but my love for Chelsea started because of Michael Essien, because he was a Ghanaian legend and he played for this lovely club. So I was just rallying behind him having such a great time at such a prestigious club, but even after he left it remained the club in my heart. This is my family, but it started because of Michael Essien” he told Chelsea’s media.
Essien is highly regarded at Chelsea because of his enormous achievement with the Premier League giants.
