West Ham United are preparing to offer Kobbie Mainoo an exit from Manchester United in January, as the midfielder seeks regular football to strengthen his 2026 World Cup ambitions.
The 20-year-old, who has Ghanaian heritage but represents England internationally, has grown frustrated over limited playing time under manager Ruben Amorim this season.
Mainoo had earlier requested a loan move during the summer transfer window, but United swiftly rejected the proposal, insisting he remained part of their plans.
His situation, however, has since changed. Mainoo has played just 138 Premier League minutes so far, and reports suggest he is increasingly eager to move elsewhere for consistent minutes ahead of the next international window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on his daily podcast that West Ham are now exploring a January loan deal for the young midfielder.
“Mainoo wanted to go on loan late in the summer transfer window, but Manchester United and Ruben Amorim decided against it at the time,” Romano said.
“Mainoo is not playing regularly, so he wants a loan move. There is interest from West Ham, offering guaranteed minutes.”
West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly keen to reinforce his midfield with a player capable of driving play forward from deep positions.
His side’s struggles in possession this season have underlined the need for more energy and control in central areas.
However, the Hammers face competition from Serie A champions Napoli, who have also been monitoring Mainoo’s situation closely.
Both clubs are expected to make formal approaches once the January transfer window opens.
With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers approaching, regular football could prove crucial for Mainoo as he looks to maintain his place in England’s plans.
