Asante Kotoko assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu has admitted that striker Kwame Opoku is unlikely to feature in Sunday’s highly anticipated Super Clash against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Opoku, who has been sidelined since suffering an injury in Kotoko’s opening-day fixture against Berekum Chelsea, only recently returned to training. However, Yaw Owusu believes the forward still needs more time to regain full fitness.
"To be honest with you, Sunday is too early for him, Kwame Opoku. We just have to prepare and prepare him well so that when he comes back, he comes to stay," the coach said after Kotoko’s 4-2 win over Karela United.
With Opoku likely to miss out, Morifin Donzo remains Kotoko’s main attacking option following the sale of Albert Amoah to Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi.
Both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko remain unbeaten in the Ghana Premier League ahead of the showdown. Hearts have recorded four wins and four draws, while Kotoko have three wins and two draws.
