Former Asante Kotoko striker Saddick Adams has urged supporters of the club to direct their frustration over Albert Amoah’s transfer to the club’s management rather than the player.
Amoah’s move to Libyan giants Al Ahly Benghazi sparked backlash as the transfer was confirmed just minutes after the club’s 5-1 defeat to Wydad Casablanca that ended their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The 23-year-old forward reportedly signed a lucrative deal worth $200,000 in signing-on fees and a monthly salary of $20,000, which could rise to $25,000 based on performance.
In a video message, Saddick Adams defended Amoah’s decision, stressing that football is ultimately a business.
“Let’s educate the fans; football is business,” he said. “I know what he’s going to earn there will be enough for him and his family. Kotoko accepted the deal because they knew it was a good offer.”
Adams further challenged supporters to hold officials accountable, urging them to ensure the transfer revenue is used to improve the club’s infrastructure, invest in quality players, and strengthen Kotoko’s long-term development.
“It’s not always about three points,” he said. “The money from Amoah’s sale should help build the club.”
Amoah netted 16 goals in 30 league appearances for Kotoko.
