Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has opened up on how he masterminded his team’s emphatic 3-0 victory against Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League on Friday afternoon amid heavy rain.
Speaking in his post-match interview, the highly-rated tactician disclosed that a change in tactics after instructing his players to resort to long balls in their build-up play did the trick for his side.
“Because of the rains, it slowed my players down. So I told them not to rely on short passes, but instead let’s do the long passes, and it worked for us because immediately we got the ball, we targeted the attackers, and I think it worked for us. We are on course,” Bashir Hayford said after the win.
In the game played at Kpando Sports Stadium, goals from Kwadwo Obeng Junior and Michael Ephson gave Heart of Lions a comfortable lead at halftime.
The second half saw Holy Stars push forward in search of a response, but their lack of cutting edge once again proved costly.
Anthony Owusu put the icing on the cake with a sensational strike from his own half to make it 3-0, sealing a comprehensive win for Lions.
Following the win on Friday, Heart of Lions have temporarily moved to first in the Ghana Premier League standings, pending the rest of the league matches over the weekend.
