Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren believes Ghana’s emphatic 3-0 win over Egypt has strengthened their qualification chances for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Swedish tactician expressed satisfaction with the result but admitted his team displayed some rustiness after a period apart from competitive action.
"You can see that we haven’t been together for a while; it doesn’t connect like it did a couple of months ago," Bjorkegren said.
"But I do think that the energy was there. We did many good things. In the end, we performed overall well. We can win a difficult away game 3-0."
He continued: "The result is amazing, so it puts us in a good position, of course, to make sure that we reach the next WAFCON."
Ghana took control of the tie in Ismailia with goals from Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah and Grace Asantewaa.
Egypt started brightly but struggled to test goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan as the Black Queens settled into rhythm.
Boaduwaa’s opener late in the first half eased Ghana’s nerves before Amponsah and Asantewaa sealed the victory.
The Black Queens will host the second leg in Accra on Tuesday, with a place in Morocco 2026 within reach.
