The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for three men who deposited the body of a Senegalese teenager, Cheikh Toure, at the Ebenezer morgue in Tafo, Kumasi.
Toure’s death in Kumasi last week has triggered a joint investigation involving Ghana’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Senegal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A special team of homicide investigators, forensic experts, and intelligence officers has been dispatched from Accra to support the regional command.
Police say the three men, who spoke only in French, are now persons of interest in the case. “We are looking for these three men,” said DSP Godwin Ahianyo, spokesperson for the command.
Ahianyo revealed inconsistencies in their accounts. “When the deceased was brought in, they found wounds in his lower abdomen and around his neck,” he said. “They initially claimed it was an accident but later said he attempted suicide in his room.”
The three men reportedly left the morgue shortly after making the deposit.
Police believe locating them is crucial to determining how the teenager died. The investigation remains ongoing.
