Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has acknowledged the growing strength of Egypt’s women’s national team ahead of their 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s first leg in Ismailia, the Swedish coach praised Egypt’s recent progress and investment in women’s football but maintained that Ghana’s focus remains on their own performance.
"Egypt is one of the most upcoming teams in Africa, actually, so they have also been good now for a while. I know that they have started to invest in women’s football. Also, they have three or four really good players that can make the difference. Of course, we need to handle them, but again, it’s going to be back to us that we have to perform and make sure that we are the better team," Bjorkegren said.
Ghana, who finished third at the previous WAFCON in Morocco, will play the first leg in Ismailia before hosting the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as they look to build on their recent success and secure another appearance at the continental tournament.
