The West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has confirmed Burkina Faso as the host nation for the 2025 African Schools Football Championship Zonal Phase.
The tournament, scheduled for December 2 to 4, 2025, will bring together top young footballers from across West Africa, showcasing the next generation of African talent through competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
This year’s edition will be the fourth in the series, following successful events in Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, and Niger. The Zonal Phase serves as a qualifier for the Continental Phase of the championship, where the best-performing schools from each zone compete for continental honours.
Ghana hosted the 2024 Continental Phase, producing an outstanding performance as the girls’ team won the title with a 2-1 victory over Uganda, while the boys’ team finished third, also defeating Uganda 2â1 to claim bronze.
Launched in April 2022 in Maputo, Mozambique, by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, the African Schools Football Championship has rapidly grown into Africa’s largest youth football movement. Over 1.96 million boys and girls from 46 countries have participated, making it a vital platform for nurturing footballing and leadership skills among African youth.
