Dutch defender of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong, is set to spend time on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury during Liverpool’s 5-1 mauling of Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League.
The versatile defender started the match on Wednesday night but only played 19 minutes.
Frimpong, who was lively in the early parts of the contest, went down in pain in the 18th minute after a challenge.
Immediately, the referee signalled for the physios to come onto the pitch. Unfortunately, Jeremie Frimpong could not continue the match after receiving medical care and had to be replaced by Conor Bradley.
Shortly after going off, Eintracht Frankfurt equalised through Rasmus Kristensen to take the lead.
After going behind, Liverpool stepped up and managed to turn things around even before halftime.
Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, and Ibrahima Konate ensured that the Reds led 3-1 before the break.
In the second half, goals from Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai sealed a delightful 5-1 win for Liverpool, ensuring that the team ended a four-game losing streak.
Injured Jeremie Frimpong is expected to undergo further assessment on Thursday to ascertain the extent of his injury.
Manager Arne Slot is hoping that his return to action will be immediate rather than later.
