Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, says the team remains optimistic of overturning their 1-0 deficit against Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round on Friday.
Despite losing narrowly to the Moroccan side in Accra last Sunday, Duku insists the Porcupine Warriors’ performance has instilled belief within the squad that they can secure qualification in Casablanca.
He maintained that Kotoko matched Wydad in every department and were unlucky not to score.
“The players are so confident. I think that before the game, the Moroccans were overhyped. I did not see much of the difference between the two clubs,” Duku told Luv FM.
“In fact, Kotoko even played better in the second half, but for that glorious chance we lost in the first half, the story would have been different.”
He added that the team’s recent away form, including back-to-back wins over Kwara United in the first round, has strengthened their resolve to fight back.
“They know that the Moroccans are just being overhyped; they can play with them. We did it in Nigeria, and they believe they can still do it. The players haven’t lost hope at all,” he said.
