Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has criticised goalkeeper Mohammed Camara’s conduct during the club’s 1-0 defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round in Accra.
Camara was sent off in the second half for handling the ball outside the penalty area while Kotoko trailed by a goal.
The incident left the Porcupine Warriors with ten men, and the goalkeeper’s visible push on the referee after being shown the red card has drawn sharp criticism from the club’s hierarchy.
Speaking to Luv FM, Duku described Camara’s reaction as regrettable and potentially damaging.
“I think the behaviour he put up was unsporting and quite unfortunate because it could attract further sanctions from CAF,” he said.
“Sometimes, when players are frustrated, these things happen, but it was not the best way to react. It’s bad.”
He added that while the club understands the emotions of playing under pressure, such actions must be avoided.
“You can understand his frustration playing in front of his die-hard fans, but we condemn it and hope it never happens again,” he noted.
Kotoko will head to Casablanca on Wednesday for the return leg, where they will attempt to overturn the deficit without their first-choice goalkeeper.
