Asante Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has described Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club as âoverhyped,’ insisting the Porcupine Warriors were the superior side despite suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash last Sunday.
Wydad, one of Africa’s most successful clubs, took a slender advantage from the match, but Duku argued that their performance failed to live up to the pre-match hype.
He pointed out that Kotoko dominated key portions of the game and looked more composed even after going a man down in the second half.
“The players are so confident. I think that before the game, the Moroccans were overhyped. I did not see much of the difference between the two clubs,” Duku told Luv FM.
“In fact, Kotoko even played better in the second half, but for that glorious chance that we lost in the first half, the story would have been different.”
The Kotoko spokesperson further expressed belief in the team’s ability to overturn the result when they travel to Casablanca for the return leg.
“They know that the Moroccans are just being overhyped; they can play with them. We did it in Nigeria, and they believe they can still do it,” he added.
The decisive second leg is scheduled for Friday in Casablanca.
