Chelsea legend John Terry sent a simple two-word message - “Congratulations mate” - to young defender Josh Acheampong following his impressive display and first senior goal in the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
The English defender of Ghanaian descent was handed a starting spot after recovering from injury and partnered Trevoh Chalobah in defence. Despite a shaky start, Acheampong settled quickly, keeping Taiwo Awoniyi quiet and capping his solid performance by heading home Pedro Neto’s pinpoint cross to open the scoring.
Reece James and Neto added further goals to secure Chelsea’s fourth win of the season, lifting them into the Premier League’s top six.
Acheampong, who shared his excitement on Instagram after the game, drew praise from fans and former players alike, including Terry. Manager Enzo Maresca has repeatedly expressed faith in the teenager, hinting that he could see more first-team opportunities.
A product of Chelsea’s renowned Cobham academy, Acheampong joins a growing list of homegrown defenders making their mark at Stamford Bridge. Born in London, his Ghanaian heritage is reflected in his middle name, "Kofi."
