Bibiani GoldStars' stunning decision to part ways with title-winning coach Frimpong Manso stemmed from an internal power struggle rather than poor results, according to the club's Chief Executive Officer Akwasi Adu.
In an exclusive interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Adu revealed the philosophical differences that led to Manso's departure just months after guiding the club to their historic first Ghana Premier League title.
"The decision to part ways with Coach Frimpong Manso goes beyond football," Adu stated. "Maybe the timing might be wrong, but after all, two masters cannot steer one ship."
The CEO's comments point to significant disagreements between the technical and administrative leadership over the club's direction, despite Manso's unprecedented success on the pitch. The coach had transformed GoldStars from relegation contenders to champions during his two-season tenure.
Adu dismissed suggestions that the recent 2-0 CAF Confederation Cup defeat to JS Kabylie triggered the decision, emphasizing the deeper organizational issues at play. "We are not so much interested in Africa, and nobody should attribute Frimpong Manso's sacking to JS Kabylie's defeat," he stressed.
The CEO defended the controversial timing by referencing football's unpredictable nature: "Even José Mourinho was sacked, so how much more Frimpong Manso?" highlighting that no coach's position is completely secure regardless of achievements.
Manso's abrupt exit underscores the challenges facing modern football clubs balancing on-field success with off-field harmony, proving that even historic achievements cannot always overcome fundamental differences in vision and leadership approach.
