French-Ghanaian midfielder Edwin Quarshie played a key role as Le Mans earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Grenoble in Ligue 2 on Tuesday night at the Stade Marie-Marvingt.
Quarshie started the game and showed great energy in midfield, lasting 66 minutes before being substituted. His highlight came in first-half stoppage time when he bravely rose to head the ball into Dame Guèye’s path, who smashed home the only goal of the game. It was a moment that lifted the home crowd and reminded them of Quarshie’s growing influence.
The midfielder, however, endured a tough battle, losing ten duels, the most in the game. Despite that, his assist gave Le Mans the cutting edge they needed against a Grenoble side that dominated possession with 70 percent of the ball and 11 shots.
Le Mans were reduced to ten men early after Harold Voyer’s red card in the 17th minute, but the team dug deep. Joshua Tenkorang also continued his solid season, adding another strong shift.
Le Mans now prepare for a tricky clash with Clermont Foot on September 26.
