Ghana’s Black Princesses began their 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign on a bright note with a commanding 2-0 victory over Tunisia in Sfax on Saturday afternoon.
Forward Mercy Attobrah of Al Ahly was the star of the day, scoring both goals to hand Ghana a vital first-leg advantage in the second-round tie.
The Princesses got off to the perfect start when Attobrah broke the deadlock in just the 4th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to put Ghana ahead.
Dreamz Ladies’ Sarah Nyarko nearly extended the lead midway through the half after a brilliant solo effort, but her attempt was denied by the Tunisian goalkeeper.
Ghana dominated much of the opening half, yet the North Africans managed to hold on, going into the break only a goal down.
Ghana resumed the second half with more urgency and thought they had doubled the lead through Attobrah again, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
The in-form striker, however, made amends later when she latched onto a through pass from Linda Owusu Ansah and calmly slotted home her second of the afternoon to seal the win.
The Black Princesses will now return home for the decisive second leg, scheduled for September 28, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A positive result will see Ghana progress to the next stage of the qualifiers, where they will face the winner of the tie between Eswatini and South Africa.
